28mm Dark Age Saxons

So as well as painting figures I really should be painting for people (I am beavering away through some Napoleonic AB), I have been finishing off figures that have been half finished for goodness knows how long. 

A small bunch of really nice Dark age Saxons, I don't know what manufacturer the armored chaps are but the archers I am fairly sure are Foundry. I painted all the shields but I am not sure how they look.  

I am sure these are foundry but I would not bet on it.

And here is a slow burning project that I have been going away and coming back to it for months.  The cunning plan is to create a Gallic army, Carthaginian, Republican Roman and Spanish to start with. All of the standard units will be four bases each 4cm x 4cm.   Any small units will be 3 bases strong, which is most of the skirmishers.

And to start some of the skirmishers.  All of the figures are Pendraken or Adler 10mm (which are brilliant).   A unit of slingers first.

And finally the warband in the really useful box.  I only intend to do another 11 bases of foot, and then a few units of cavalry.

This project is slowly coming together, I am doing the Gauls first as I knew the shields would drive me barmy.

Blogging again falls to the bottom of the heap.

Well I have managed to fail AGAIN on the blogging front.  I have been painting and wargaming and taking pictures then not putting them onto the interweb.

So there will be a few updates over the next week or two as I finally update this blog.

First up some figures I have had part done for months, 28mm Gripping beast Byzantine foot.  As with so many wargamers and modelers this was a total magpie moment, saw them went "shiny stuff", started these and then got dragged onto painting something different.  Chaps with spears were a nice change to the buckets of Napoleonic's I had been painting before.  

The shield have little big man transfers attached and I would recommend them to anyone.  I replaced the spears provided with steel (why do they bother with lead bendy nonsense anymore?).

If ever the day comes when I have the space to store 28mm armies I might try and get a load of these.

Finally finished some more figures

Woo who, I have finished figures and post them on my blog.  The 12th light dragoons, Front rank and really, really lovely.  

And a brigade commander painted as John Vandeleur (I think that's the spelling) along with trumpeter and officer.  Obviously not based but still look pretty good.

28mm Napoleonic Spanish

Well the holidays are over and it is now back to work and the normal grind.  I have been busy painting this bundle of joy for the last couple of months, painting all that white was quite a chore.

There are four units in total, one regiment with blue facings and one with green.  The chap I painted them for is going to attach the standards and wanted the first battalion drummers to have the blue uniform and the second battalion with plain white.

This final pictures is the rough approximation for the design on the bags of bear skins. The actual designs are insanely complicated so I went for an approximation and made sure they were uniform.  

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and that 2014 brings plenty of wargaming.

Midweek wargaming

Is a beautiful thing.  Got my 10mm 7yw armies out for a game against an old mate Dave. It was just a straight put figures on and try to defeat the other side.  This was the deployment right at the beginning, Dave had the forces of good King George and I had the dastardly French.  The Germans are at the top of the picture deployed between the two woods.  The French are at the bottom. Any dice in the pictures are hit markers. I need to make some others up.

The two lines in the middle just moved and got involved in a slow fire fight. Looked good but just lots of disorders on both side so not much exciting happening:

On the French right the poor French infantry were attacked by the finest cavalry in the world:

And surprisingly not only fight them off, but the cavalry rout and the unit left failed a morale throw and retreated disordered:

Then I rolled a blunder and one of those same French units charged the disordered Cavalry and beat them in hand to hand combat, the fact they could not counter charge really helped:

The French managed to break that cavalry brigade then attack into the woods and started to chew on the infantry defending the woods:

So although an infantry brigade from each side had been broken in the middle by slowly blowing each other to pieces, on the French left I managed to get an overwhelming number of guys and broke the infantry defending the woods.  A French win, and for the first time in weeks I won against Dave.  Hurrah.

NO MORE BROWN

At least for a little while, the following were the final installment of cacadores for a commission.

They are based on 8cmx4cm mdf bases and look pretty good spread out like that.  The first two pictures are the same unit, red cuffs and brown collars, as I have said before I have no idea which regiment this might be. 

And the second lot in light blue cuff and brown collars.

The only problem with taking photos is you then see any small mistakes that you did not see with the naked eye, I must be getting old.
